SafeHands for Mothers founder and executive director, Nancy Durrell McKenna, has been awarded the prestigious Royal Photographic Society: Combined Royal Colleges Medal at its annual ceremony, October 4, 2007 at the Royal Institute of British Architects.
The Medal is awarded by The Society in collaboration with the Royal College of Physicians of London, the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, for outstanding contributions to photography in the service of medicine and surgery.
Some of Nancy’s images will be exhibited at the awards ceremony, as well as being published in The Society Journal and added to The Society’s Collection at National Media Museum in Bradford. This recognition of Nancy’s commitment comes at an exciting time for SafeHands for Mothers, coinciding with the one year anniversary of the charity’s advocacy and training work towards reducing maternal mortality in rural Ethiopia and plans for its expansion.
